The RealReal (NYSE: REAL) has implemented Motorola Solutions' (NYSE: MSI) AI-enabled video security technology to automate its inventory intake process, according to a company statement. The luxury resale marketplace reports the deployment reduced asset protection operating expenses by approximately 60%.

The technology transforms what was previously a multi-day manual process for tracking luxury items into an automated digital workflow. The system allows The RealReal to rapidly filter video footage to locate individual products using intelligent search capabilities based on physical descriptions.

"Historically, it could take days of manual review to find one misplaced item," said Robert Cormie, vice president of Asset Protection and Facilities at The RealReal. "With Motorola Solutions, we've converted days of manual searching into seconds of automated tracking."

The RealReal processes thousands of unique luxury items daily, including watches, bags and jewelry. Each item represents a distinct SKU in the consignment process, creating inventory management challenges different from traditional retail operations.

The AI-enabled video security suite includes dozens of cameras deployed across The RealReal's facilities. The system can identify unusual motion or sound patterns and enables proactive merchandise protection rather than passive monitoring.

Scott Schoepel, vice president of Video Security Vertical Sales at Motorola Solutions, said the implementation demonstrates how AI transforms back-of-house operations for retailers facing rising labor and theft costs.

Motorola Solutions will display its AI-enabled video security suite at the National Retail Federation's Big Show from January 11-13 at the Javits Center in New York.
