Pony.ai and BAIC BJEV announced an expanded strategic partnership to accelerate autonomous driving commercialization and global deployment of robotaxi technology, according to a company statement.

The partnership will focus on developing purpose-built robotaxi models, with both companies collaborating on vehicle architecture optimization and cabin systems designed for autonomous operations. The agreement also covers fleet operations, vehicle maintenance, and user acquisition across the autonomous mobility value chain.

The companies began their collaboration in 2024 and have jointly developed the Arcfox Alpha T5 Robotaxi, with more than 600 units produced. These vehicles are currently operating commercially in Beijing and Shenzhen. The model debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show in April.

"This expanded partnership reflects a shared commitment to moving autonomous driving from technical readiness to large-scale commercial reality," said Ning Zhang, Vice President of Pony.ai.

BAIC BJEV serves as the electric vehicle development and manufacturing division of BAIC Group. The company brings manufacturing expertise and supply chain capabilities aimed at reducing production costs and improving vehicle performance for autonomous vehicles.

Pony.ai operates in eight countries, including Luxembourg, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, and South Korea. The companies plan to introduce the Arcfox Alpha T5 Robotaxi to global markets including Europe and the Middle East.

Since their partnership began, the companies have invested nearly RMB 1 billion in autonomous driving research, development, and commercialization. The expanded agreement involves additional capital investment for technology development and overseas growth initiatives.
