PlusAI, a developer of autonomous truck software, announced an expanded partnership with TRATON GROUP that includes up to $25 million in research and development funding. The agreement supports the commercialization of factory-built autonomous trucks in the U.S. and Europe.
Under the expanded partnership, TRATON will provide dedicated R&D funding to accelerate integration of PlusAI's SuperDrive virtual driver system into trucks manufactured by TRATON's brands, including Scania, MAN, and International. TRATON will also nominate a representative to PlusAI's board of directors following the company's planned public listing through a merger with Churchill Capital Corp IX (NASDAQ: CCIX).
The partnership includes performance-based incentives, with TRATON eligible to receive private warrants tied to initial deployment revenue milestones. This structure aligns both companies' interests in accelerated commercialization and scaled adoption of autonomous trucking technology.
"Autonomous trucking is a strategic pillar of TRATON's long-term technology roadmap," said Niklas Klingenberg, member of TRATON's executive board responsible for research and development. The partnership builds on collaboration announced in 2024 when PlusAI's system was selected as the autonomous driving platform for TRATON's brands.
The companies have achieved several operational milestones, including International launching autonomous fleet trials in Texas with a major North American logistics operator. The trials use trucks equipped with factory-installed sensors and PlusAI's latest SuperDrive release along the I-35 corridor between Laredo and Dallas.
PlusAI completed driverless safety maneuver tests using International trucks, validating the system's ability to perform autonomous fallback procedures without driver intervention. The companies are also collaborating with NVIDIA on Level 4 development using the DRIVE AGX Hyperion platform.
TRATON delivered 305,500 vehicles globally in 2025 and represents one of the world's largest commercial vehicle manufacturers. The expanded partnership aims to address driver shortages and rising operating costs in the approximately $2 trillion freight market across the U.S. and Europe.
The information is based on a press release from the companies.
