Palladyne AI Corp. (NASDAQ: PDYN and PDYNW) announced the appointment of retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Stephen M. Twitty to its board of directors. The Salt Lake City-based company develops artificial intelligence software for robotic platforms in defense and commercial sectors.

Twitty served 40 years in the U.S. Army, commanding units at multiple levels and completing five combat tours as an infantry officer. His final military assignment was Deputy Commander of the United States European Command in Stuttgart, Germany. He received the Silver Star Medal and other military honors.

Since retiring from the military, Twitty has served as senior executive lead for U.S. training operations at Valiant Integrated Services. He holds board positions at Karman Space and Defense (NYSE: KRMN), Weibel Scientific, and Mexora, Inc. He also advises several companies including Accelint, Dataminr, HDT-Global, and Raft Inc., while serving as a senior advisor to the Chertoff Group and Ernst and Young.

Twitty works as a military commentator for CNBC, providing analysis on defense-related topics.

"AI and autonomy are transforming the future of defense," Twitty said in a statement. "Palladyne's embedded AI solutions, particularly the autonomous drone swarming capability, represent the future of precision, deterrence, and overmatch."

Palladyne AI President and CEO Ben Wolff said Twitty's leadership and operational insight into global defense challenges will help accelerate the company's mission of enabling embedded AI systems.

The company's AI software platform is designed to enable robots to perceive their environment and adapt to changing circumstances through machine learning, operating on robotic systems without extensive programming requirements.
