Palladyne AI completes first flight test of IntelliSwarm autonomy system

Palladyne AI Corp. (NASDAQ: PDYN, PDYNW) announced the successful flight test of its IntelliSwarm autonomy system, which integrates the company's SwarmOS software with its BRAIN X2 flight computer. The test was conducted using Palladyne's Banshee loitering munition platform in collaboration with Red Cat (NASDAQ: RCAT) drone platforms.

The integration of SwarmOS and BRAIN X2 was completed in three weeks, according to the company's press release. IntelliSwarm combines guidance, navigation, control, and autonomous swarming capabilities into a unified system designed to operate in environments where GPS and communications may be unavailable.

"IntelliSwarm is flight-proven technology today - not a future concept," said Ben Wolff, President and Chief Executive Officer of Palladyne AI. "This successful integration fundamentally changes what's possible and economically viable in AI-enabled unmanned systems."

The system enables platforms from different manufacturers to operate together as autonomous collaborative units within a secure mesh network. Unlike centralized command systems, IntelliSwarm uses a decentralized design that the company says supports mission resilience and graceful degradation.

The Banshee platform used in the test is described as a reusable mini-bomber UAV designed for contested warfare environments. The company positions it as offering precision effects at lower cost compared to first-person view drones while providing greater autonomy and reusability.

Dr. Denis Garagić, Chief Technology Officer of Palladyne AI, said the integration creates "a seamless stack for embodied intelligence, precise flight control, and heterogeneous coordination."

Palladyne AI plans to make IntelliSwarm available to other unmanned aerial system and attritable munitions manufacturers after completing testing and commercialization. The company expects the system to serve as a building block for current and future unmanned programs.
