Origin Materials Inc. (NASDAQ: ORGN) announced a partnership with Matrix Bottling Group to produce beverages featuring recyclable PET bottle caps for major beverage brands.
The companies completed a bottling trial in the fourth quarter of 2025 and plan customer qualification trials and product runs throughout 2026 and beyond, according to a press release statement. Matrix Bottling Group will provide bottling and capping services for PET caps produced by Origin, starting with 28 mm caps before expanding to other formats.
Origin's PET caps are made through thermoforming rather than traditional injection or compression molding and can be manufactured using 100% post-consumer recycled material for food-grade applications. The company states the caps enable lighter packaging and improved product barrier properties that extend shelf life.
Matrix Bottling Group operates beverage manufacturing facilities across the United States and serves brands ranging from startups to global companies. The partnership will initially focus on Matrix's Las Vegas, Nevada location with potential expansion to other U.S. facilities.
"Brands already need to work with their bottling partners to switch to PET caps. By partnering directly with progressive bottling companies like Matrix, Origin will remove a potential barrier to adoption," said John Bissell, CEO of Origin Materials.
Baze Melamed, Director of Sales at Matrix Bottling Group, described the partnership as representing advancement for mass adoption of PET caps and mono-material containers.
Origin Materials develops sustainable materials technology, targeting what it describes as a $65 billion market for caps and closures.
