OpenText (NASDAQ: OTEX) (TSX: OTEX) and TELUS (NYSE: TU) (TSX: T) announced the launch of the OpenText and TELUS Canadian Sovereign Cloud, a platform designed to provide Canadian organizations and government agencies with cloud computing and AI capabilities while maintaining data sovereignty within Canadian borders.

The platform operates entirely within TELUS' Canadian data centers, including facilities in Rimouski, Quebec, and Kamloops, British Columbia. The service will be available starting September 2025 for commercial and government customers across Canada.

"OpenText is excited to partner with TELUS to deliver these strategic capabilities for Canadian customers," said Mark J. Barrenechea, OpenText CEO and CTO. "Together with TELUS, we are delivering a uniquely Canadian solution — one that empowers our customers to innovate with confidence, knowing their data and AI workloads remain protected and in-country."

TELUS President and CEO Darren Entwistle described the partnership as "Canada's first truly sovereign AI platform." The platform combines TELUS' Sovereign AI Factory offering with OpenText's enterprise AI capabilities.

OpenText currently serves 1,600 Canadian institutions, with nearly 1,000 organizations using AI-powered applications in the cloud. The company's Aviator AI products will utilize TELUS' AI Factory to offer sovereign configurations hosted entirely in Canada.

Both companies are signatories of the Government of Canada's voluntary AI code of conduct. The Honourable Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, stated that "Canada needs trusted data infrastructure and industry-leading sovereign AI capabilities to advance our technology sector."

The platform aims to meet Canadian security standards and privacy regulations while providing high-performance AI computing capabilities. OpenText's private cloud solutions are available through existing procurement vehicles and have undergone technical evaluation for deployment readiness.
