Manulife signs five-year AI deal with Microsoft

Manulife Financial Corporation (NYSE: MFC) and Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) announced a five-year agreement to expand their partnership, with Manulife adopting Microsoft's 365 E7 Frontier Suite and deploying Microsoft Agent 365 across its global operations.

As part of the deal, Manulife will extend Microsoft 365 Copilot access to more than 30,000 employees. Microsoft Agent 365 will serve as a centralized registry for AI agents across the enterprise, providing a single interface to observe, govern, and manage AI agent activity.

Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Foundry will supply components for Manulife's global enterprise AI platform, currently in pilot, supporting data scientists and developers in building and managing AI solutions under a shared governance framework.

Manulife said its developers have increased productivity by 30% through assisted and autonomous AI capabilities using GitHub Copilot. The company said it expects to generate more than $1 billion in enterprise value by 2027, with $300 million achieved as of year-end 2025, through productivity improvements and efficiency gains.

Existing AI deployments at Manulife include a Sales Enablement tool launched in Singapore and scaled across multiple markets, a generative AI underwriting support tool called Quick Quote launched by John Hancock in the U.S., and generative AI solutions supporting more than 110 million customer calls annually across North America.

"Adopting the Microsoft Frontier Suite represents the next phase of that transformation, giving us the trusted foundation to advance AI across our global operations with confidence," said Shamus Weiland, Chief Technology & Operations Officer at Manulife.
