Magnite sues Google for damages following antitrust ruling

Magnite Inc. (NASDAQ: MGNI) filed a lawsuit against Google in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia seeking financial damages and other remedies following an April 2025 court ruling that found Google engaged in anticompetitive practices in the ad technology market.

The lawsuit references the U.S. District Court's April ruling, which determined that Google "willfully engaged in a series of anticompetitive acts to acquire and maintain monopoly power" in the ad exchange and ad server markets.

Magnite's complaint alleges that Google's practices created an exclusionary scheme that locked publishers into its ad server while favoring its own exchange. The company claims these actions prevented independent competitors from competing fairly and growing their businesses.

"For years, Google undermined our ability to execute on this mission with practices that favored its own business over the health of the open web, causing harm to publishers, advertisers, and partners like us," said Michael Barrett, CEO of Magnite.

The advertising technology company describes itself as the largest independent sell-side advertising company, providing technology for publishers to monetize content across various formats including connected TV, online video, display, and audio.

Magnite is represented by Kressin Powers LLC in the litigation. The company has made the full complaint available to the public.

The lawsuit follows the earlier federal court determination regarding Google's market practices in the advertising technology sector, which found the company maintained monopoly power through anticompetitive behavior.
