Iran declares maritime restricted zone in Gulf of Oman
Investing.com -- Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced on Wednesday that a maritime restricted area will stretch from Chabahar in Iran into portions of the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. The exact coordinates of the zone will be disclosed at a later time, according to the IRGC spokesperson.
The declaration comes after Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, stated on Sunday that Iran would create a restricted zone outside the Strait of Hormuz within days, as reported by state media.
The IRGC spokesperson warned that vessels traveling through the restricted area near the Strait of Hormuz without coordinating with Iran will face sanctions, according to Fars news agency.
