Harmonic (NASDAQ: HLIT) introduced a new product family called Recon on Sept. 30, a network monitoring and measurement solution developed in collaboration with Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) aimed at broadband operators.
The initial Recon offering is based on XMFR, a fiber monitoring technology developed and used internally by Comcast. The two companies worked together to adapt the technology into a commercial product available to broadband operators and other infrastructure providers.
Recon combines in-network monitoring hardware and handheld diagnostic tools with cloud-based software to provide real-time visibility across fiber infrastructure. The solution also integrates with Harmonic's cOS SensAI intelligence fabric, which uses data collected by Recon to detect faults and validate remediation.
According to Harmonic, the product is designed to help operators identify network degradation before it affects subscribers, provide field technicians with precise diagnostic information, and extend monitoring coverage across access, metro and core networks as well as data center interconnect links.
"XMFR grew out of a challenge our teams were solving every day inside Comcast's network: how to see problems developing across fiber infrastructure and give our teams better information to address them quickly," said Elad Nafshi, Chief Network Officer at Comcast.
Harmonic said it plans to expand the Recon product family over time. The company will demonstrate Recon at SCTE TechExpo26 in booth A153.
