Google adds hide ads control to search results page
Google is updating its search results page with new advertising controls and labeling changes. The company announced it will group text ads under a single "Sponsored results" label that remains visible while users scroll.
The search engine is introducing a "Hide sponsored results" feature that allows users to collapse text advertisements with one click to view only organic search results. Google stated the changes maintain the same ad sizes and limit text ad groupings to four advertisements.
The updated "Sponsored" label extends to other advertising units on search results pages, including Shopping ads. Google said testing showed the new design helps users navigate the top of search pages more easily.
The changes are rolling out globally on both desktop and mobile platforms, according to the company's statement. Google processes billions of search queries daily through its platform.
