GlobalFoundries (NASDAQ: GFS) announced it has shipped more than 10 million Silicon Labs Wi-Fi units manufactured on its 40nm process technology platform. The milestone was disclosed at GlobalFoundries' annual Technology Summit in California.
The partnership focuses on producing wireless system-on-chip devices using GlobalFoundries' 40LP platform, including Silicon Labs' SiWX917 Wi-Fi 6 chip designed for Internet of Things applications. The 40LP process technology provides low power consumption in standby mode for battery-powered connected devices.
Silicon Labs (NASDAQ: SLAB) developed the SiWX917 as a single-chip solution for battery-powered IoT devices that maintains wireless connectivity while extending battery life. The chip combines Wi-Fi 6 technology with power efficiency features.
"Our commitment is to provide the foundational manufacturing technology that allows innovators to push the boundaries of what's possible in high-growth markets like consumer IoT," said Kamal Khouri, senior vice president of GlobalFoundries' feature-rich CMOS product line.
Irvind Ghai, vice president at Silicon Labs, stated that the collaboration enables the company to deliver Wi-Fi connectivity solutions for connected devices. "Our collaboration with GlobalFoundries is making it possible for us to deliver secure, reliable Wi-Fi connectivity at scale for the next generation of connected devices," Ghai said.
GlobalFoundries operates manufacturing facilities across the United States, Europe and Asia. Silicon Labs, headquartered in Austin, Texas, focuses on low-power connectivity technology for smart home, industrial IoT and smart cities applications.
