Research Frontiers Inc. (NASDAQ: REFR) outlined the significance of a $7 million equity financing completed by its licensee Gauzy Ltd. (NASDAQ: GAUZ), which the company said will support the resumption of SPD-SmartGlass production and fulfillment of existing customer orders.
The financing closed on Oct. 15, 2026, following Israeli court approval of a settlement addressing approximately $61 million of pre-petition liabilities. The financing was led by Gauzy CEO Eyal Peso and other investors.
According to Research Frontiers, payments have begun flowing from Gauzy to support the restart of SPD emulsion production in Israel and SPD light-control film production in Germany.
Joseph M. Harary, President and CEO of Research Frontiers, said in a statement that the financing and court-approved settlement "provide a foundation for restoring production and rebuilding the commercial momentum that was interrupted by the involuntary court proceedings initiated against Gauzy last November."
Research Frontiers said the restored production will also support the development of an architectural SPD-SmartGlass retrofit solution designed for existing buildings, as well as next-generation black SPD film products. The company also noted that SPD-SmartGlass technology has been selected for electronically dimmable window systems on two new OEM aircraft models in North America.
Research Frontiers said it plans to host an investor conference call in early November to discuss the production restart, new products, market opportunities, and third-quarter 2026 operating results.
