Galmed Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (NASDAQ: GLMD) announced a corporate rebranding to Eocene Ltd., along with a trading symbol change on the Nasdaq Capital Market to "EOCN," effective September 10, 2026.
The company said the new name, derived from ancient Greek words meaning "dawn" and "new," reflects its shift from a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on liver, cardiometabolic, and oncology diseases to a gastrointestinal-focused medtech and biopharmaceutical platform.
The rebranding follows the company's acquisition of Colospan Ltd., a commercial-stage medical device company that has developed a solution targeting anastomotic leak complications following colorectal surgery. Colospan's device, CG-100, is described as commercially available in Europe and Israel.
As of June 30, 2026, the company reported $11.4 million in cash, cash equivalents, short-term deposits, and marketable debt securities.
The company also announced the termination of its Standby Equity Purchase Agreement (SEPA) with Yorkville, effective September 8, 2026. The SEPA had provided an equity line of up to $20 million, with approximately $7.3 million raised through the issuance of 437,947 ordinary shares prior to termination.
Allen Baharaff, President and CEO, said in a statement: "The introduction of the Eocene name marks an important new chapter for our company."
The company noted that the name and ticker changes do not affect shareholders' ownership interests. The Nasdaq Capital Market previously notified the company on September 3, 2026, that it had regained compliance with the minimum bid price requirement under Nasdaq Listing Rule 5550(a)(2). Existing shareholders are not required to take any action in connection with the changes.
