GATX adds Robert Wetherbee to board of directors

GATX Corporation (NYSE: GATX) elected Robert S. Wetherbee to its board of directors, the Chicago-based transportation asset leasing company announced. Wetherbee will serve on the board's Audit and Compensation Committees.



The appointment brings GATX's board to nine members, including eight independent directors. Wetherbee, 65, currently serves as executive chairman of ATI Inc. (NYSE: ATI), a producer of high-performance materials and solutions for aerospace and defense markets.



Wetherbee became president and chief executive officer of ATI in January 2019 and was named board chair in May 2021. He assumed his current executive chairman role in July 2024. He joined ATI in 2010 and previously served as president of its Tungsten Materials and Flat Rolled Products businesses.



Before joining ATI, Wetherbee held leadership roles over 29 years at Alcoa Inc. and worked at Minerals Technologies, Inc. and Metalspectrum.com. He currently serves on the board of Commercial Metals Company and has been board chair since September 2024.



"Bob is a proven leader in the specialty materials and metals industries with experience serving a variety of end markets, including a wide range of industrial and commercial aerospace sectors," said Robert C. Lyons, president and chief executive officer of GATX.



Wetherbee holds a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial administration with an emphasis in accounting from Iowa State University.



GATX leases transportation assets including railcars, aircraft spare engines and tank containers to customers worldwide. The company, headquartered in Chicago since 1898, has paid quarterly dividends without interruption since 1919.
