Fortis announced a strategic partnership with BigCommerce (NASDAQ: CMRC) to integrate embedded payments technology into the ecommerce platform. The collaboration provides BigCommerce customers access to real-time transactions, simplified reconciliation, and next-day funding while eliminating third-party gateways.
The integration targets mid-market B2B sellers, distributors, service-based businesses, and developers using the BigCommerce platform. Fortis' technology offers support for 135+ currencies, fraud protection, PCI compliance, and compliant surcharging options to reduce payment acceptance costs.
"The partnership with BigCommerce marks a defining moment in our mission to transform payments from operational necessity into a growth engine," said Greg Cohen, CEO of Fortis. The company processes billions annually through its proprietary technology and is headquartered in Plano, Texas.
Russell Klein, Chief Commercial Officer at Commerce, stated that "Fortis delivers the flexibility and strategic partnership that allows businesses to streamline payments while staying focused on delivering exceptional customer experiences."
BigCommerce operates as a flexible enterprise ecommerce platform under Commerce and serves brands, retailers, manufacturers, and merchants. The company's customers include Coldwater Creek, Harvey Nichols, King Arthur Baking Co., Mizuno, MKM Building Supplies, United Aqua Group, and Uplift Desk.
The partnership enables unified digital payments across ecommerce and mobile channels through developer-friendly architecture via tokenized APIs and plug-and-play tools. Fortis describes itself as operating in the $100 trillion B2B payments landscape.
