Facebook Dating introduces assistant and Meet Cute features
Facebook Dating announced two new features aimed at reducing user reliance on swiping through potential matches. The dating assistant and Meet Cute functions are being introduced to the platform's users in the United States and Canada.
The dating assistant operates as a chat-based tool within Facebook Dating that provides personalized match recommendations based on user interests and preferences. Users can input specific search criteria, such as "Find me a Brooklyn girl in tech," and receive tailored suggestions. The assistant also offers dating advice and profile improvement recommendations.
Meet Cute automatically pairs users with surprise matches using Facebook's matching algorithm on a weekly basis. Users can choose to start conversations with these matches or decline them. The feature eliminates the need for manual swiping through profiles.
According to the company's statement, hundreds of thousands of young adults aged 18-29 in the US and Canada create Facebook Dating profiles monthly. The platform reported a 10% year-over-year increase in matches among young adult users.
The dating assistant will roll out gradually in the US and Canada through the Matches tab within Facebook Dating. Meet Cute matches are delivered weekly, with the company exploring additional frequency options. Users can opt out of either feature.
Facebook Dating operates as a free service within the main Facebook application. The new features represent the platform's response to what it describes as "swipe fatigue" among dating app users.
