Fabric.AI stockholders approve Kopin partnership for MicroLED interconnect
Fabric.AI, Inc. (Nasdaq: FABC) announced that its stockholders have approved a proposal related to the company's partnership with Kopin Corporation (Nasdaq: KOPN) to jointly develop the Neural I/o™ MicroLED optical interconnect technology, according to a press release.
The two companies are proceeding with development of the interconnect, with progress updates expected within the coming quarter and a demonstrable platform targeted by the end of 2026.
The Neural I/o platform uses arrays of MicroLED emitters and photodetectors, rather than lasers, to move data optically between GPUs, accelerators, memory, and servers at short reach. Fabric.AI states the approach targets advantages in energy per bit and interconnect density relative to laser-based optics and copper/SerDes electrical links.
In connection with the stockholder vote, Fabric.AI reaffirmed several strategic priorities. The company said it is seeking patent protection for inventions related to the Neural I/o transceiver, receiver, and interconnect technology. It also noted that the underlying MicroLED transceiver and receiver components could potentially be used in other co-packaged optics applications.
Fabric.AI has engaged executive search firm Egon Zehnder to recruit senior leadership, including a Chief Revenue Officer. The interconnect program is led by Bill Maffucci, Head of Project Development.
The company cited a third-party estimate that the AI-infrastructure interconnect market could exceed $73 billion in total addressable market by 2030, noting the figure is not a projection of its own revenue.
Fabric.AI describes itself as a fabless semiconductor company. Kopin Corporation is a developer of display and optical solutions with products used in defense, enterprise, and consumer markets.
