Ericsson signs $3 billion partnership with Export Development Canada
Ericsson announced a $3 billion partnership agreement with Export Development Canada (EDC) to expand investment in Canadian research and development and accelerate technologies including 5G, Cloud RAN, AI, and quantum innovation.
The three-year partnership will enable Ericsson to expand its Canadian-led innovation and global projects with financial and insurance solutions from EDC. The agreement aims to strengthen Ericsson's Canadian supply chain and connect the company with domestic businesses.
"Canada is one of Ericsson's most important hubs for global research and development, and this partnership with Export Development Canada will allow us to scale that leadership even further," said Börje Ekholm, President and CEO of Ericsson.
Ericsson Canada employs more than 3,100 people nationwide and operates R&D centers in Ottawa, Montreal, and Toronto. Canadian teams work on advancements in 5G, 5G Advanced, and 6G, while contributing to research in quantum communications and AI-powered network management.
Alison Nankivell, President and CEO of Export Development Canada, stated the agreement enables Canadian expertise to reach new markets and helps Canadian companies integrate into global supply chains.
The partnership builds on Ericsson's CAD $634.8 million R&D agreement with the Government of Canada announced in 2024. Ericsson Canada has operated in the country for over 70 years and maintains R&D centers and offices in Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto.
The information is based on a press release statement from Ericsson.
