Equity Residential adds Chris Carr to board of trustees

Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR) appointed Chris Carr to its board of trustees to serve until the next annual meeting of shareholders, according to a company statement. The appointment increases the board to 11 members, with nine qualifying as independent trustees under New York Stock Exchange listing standards.



Carr, 61, will serve on the company's Audit and Corporate Governance Committees. He previously held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Sweetgreen Inc. (NYSE: SG) and spent time in senior executive roles at Starbucks (NASDAQ: SBUX), most recently as Executive Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer. Earlier in his career, Carr worked 18 years at ExxonMobil in retail operational strategy roles for the company's Global Fuels Marketing downstream businesses.



The new board member currently serves as a director for Hilton Worldwide Inc. (NYSE: HLT) and chairs the board of Recreational Equipment Inc. He also holds trustee positions at Howard University and the University of San Diego.

The company has added five new trustees over the past six years, reducing the average board tenure of independent trustees to 7.5 years. Equity Residential owns or has investments in 319 properties consisting of 86,422 apartment units across multiple metropolitan markets including Boston, New York, Washington D.C., Seattle, San Francisco and Southern California.
