DEFSEC launches laser detection system for U.S. Army trials
DEFSEC Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: DFSC) announced the launch of its Battlespace Laser Identification Sensor System (BLISS), a laser threat detection system designed for military use. The company has filed provisional patents for the technology and scheduled initial units for delivery to the U.S. Army next month.
BLISS builds upon DEFSEC's previous Battlefield Laser Detection System (BLDS), which the company delivered to the U.S. Army for an armored vehicle program in June 2025. The new system incorporates enhanced laser threat detection, emitter identification capabilities, and networked battlespace awareness features.
"BLISS represents a major step forward in tactical-edge force protection and actionable battlespace intelligence for commanders," said Sean Homuth, President and CEO. "It combines rapid warning and actionable intelligence in real time."
The system is designed to alert operators to laser activity across battlefields, providing early warning and threat characterization. DEFSEC states the technology can be deployed across dismounted soldiers, vehicles, and fixed infrastructure.
The company is developing companion software applications for the system. The first application, being shipped to the U.S. Army for testing, supports threat analysis and characterization. A second application, expected for demonstrations in May 2026, will integrate with real-time situational awareness systems used by NATO allies including Canada and the United States.
DEFSEC, headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, develops tactical systems for military and security forces. The company's product portfolio includes digitization systems for tactical forces and countermeasures against electronic detection, lasers, and drones.
