Compass Pathways appoints Dr. Jeffrey Jonas to board of directors

Compass Pathways plc (NASDAQ: CMPS) announced the appointment of Dr. Jeffrey Jonas to its board of directors, effective immediately. The biotechnology company focuses on mental health innovation through evidence-based treatments.



Dr. Jonas brings more than 30 years of pharmaceutical research and development experience, particularly in neuroscience. He currently serves as a partner at Cure Ventures, a life sciences venture capital firm.



Previously, Dr. Jonas served as chief executive officer of Sage Therapeutics from 2013 to 2020, followed by roles as chief innovation officer from 2020 to 2022 and board member from 2013 to 2024. He also held the position of president of the Regenerative Medicine Division at Shire Pharmaceuticals and senior roles at ISIS Pharmaceuticals, Forest Laboratories, and Upjohn Laboratories.



Dr. Jonas currently serves on the board of directors of Generation Bio Co. (NASDAQ: GBIO) and chairs the board of Noema Pharma, a clinical-stage biotech company targeting central nervous system disorders. He previously served on the board of Karuna Therapeutics.



As part of the board transition, Thomas Lönngren will retire from his board position at the end of December after more than six years of service. Lönngren advised the company through the advancement of its COMP360 program and the transition from early-stage to late-stage clinical development.



Dr. Jonas holds a bachelor's degree from Amherst College and a medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his psychiatry residency at Harvard and served as chief resident of psychopharmacology at McLean Hospital.



Compass Pathways is developing COMP360, an investigational synthetic psilocybin treatment for treatment-resistant depression. The treatment has received Breakthrough Therapy designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
