Biomerica reports real-world data showing IBS therapy effectiveness

February 26, 2026 8:20 AM UTC

Biomerica Inc. (NASDAQ: BMRA) announced results from a real-world study of its inFoods IBS therapy, showing that 59.4% of patients achieved at least a 30% reduction in abdominal pain and 68.1% achieved similar reductions in bloating.

The analysis included 69 patients who completed an 8-week study protocol. Among 62 patients who tested positive for food sensitivities, mean abdominal pain scores decreased 34.6% from baseline to 8 weeks, while bloating scores declined 41.7% over the same period.

The company used the FDA-recognized responder endpoint of at least 30% improvement in weekly average symptom scores, consistent with standards applied to clinical trials for IBS drug therapies. These real-world results align closely with a previously published randomized controlled trial in Gastroenterology journal, which showed a 59.6% pain responder rate.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services established a $300 national Medicare payment rate for the inFoods IBS test, effective January 1, 2026. The company also entered a marketing services agreement with Henry Schein Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC) in late 2025, providing access to more than 400 medical field sales representatives.

The American Medical Association approved a unique CPT code for the test, effective October 1, 2025. The inFoods IBS test uses a finger-stick blood sample to identify patient-specific food triggers for IBS symptoms.

"Nearly 60% of patients saw clinically meaningful pain relief and more than two-thirds experienced significant improvement in bloating," said Zack Irani, CEO of Biomerica.

IBS affects an estimated 30 to 45 million adults in the United States, according to the company's press release.
