Ascertain, a healthcare technology company, announced a partnership with The Oncology Institute Inc. (NASDAQ: TOI) to develop automated administrative workflows for oncology practices. The collaboration focuses on Ascertain's Unified Payer Portal, an AI system designed to automate payer-related tasks before outpatient oncology visits.
The companies deployed the system in eight weeks from signed agreement to implementation. Since launching in September 2025, the automation reduced office visit authorization submission time by over 80 percent at pilot sites, according to the companies' statement.
The Oncology Institute expects the system to generate up to $2 million in operating expense savings in 2026 as it scales across authorization types. The automation now processes prior authorizations across TOI's 100-plus clinics and affiliate locations.
"The Oncology Institute has been a national leader in bringing value-based cancer care to scale, and we are proud to co-develop automation tools that help sustain that mission," said Mark Michalski, CEO of Ascertain.
Daniel Virnich, CEO of The Oncology Institute, said the partnership reflects the company's focus on operational efficiency. "We've seen how thoughtfully applied automation can simplify complex tasks and allow our staff to focus more of their time on supporting patients," he stated.
The Oncology Institute operates over 100 clinics across five states, serving approximately 1.9 million patients. Ascertain develops AI technology for healthcare administrative workflows and was founded in partnership with Northwell Health and Aegis Ventures.
