Aclarion Inc. (NASDAQ: ACON, ACONW) announced the publication of an article about its Nociscan technology in the International Journal of Spine Surgery's Special Pain Issue, according to a company statement.

The article presents a case study of a 27-year-old patient with chronic low back pain. Initial MRI imaging suggested pain sources at the L4/5 and L5/S1 disc levels. A subsequent four-level Nociscan examination revealed pain biomarkers for the L5/S1 disc but not for the L4/5 disc. The surgeon used this information along with MRI data and clinical history to perform artificial disc replacement only at the L5/S1 level, which eliminated the patient's pain.

Nociscan is described as a software platform that uses magnetic resonance spectroscopy data to help physicians distinguish between painful and nonpainful discs in the lumbar spine. The technology processes MRS data through proprietary algorithms to identify chemical biomarkers associated with disc pain.

The International Journal of Spine Surgery publishes over 150 articles annually from more than 40 nations and focuses on scientific basis, surgical techniques, and outcomes for spinal procedures. The Special Pain Issue highlights innovations in spine care, according to the journal's guest editor Morgan P. Lorio.

Aclarion develops healthcare technology using biomarkers and artificial intelligence algorithms for chronic low back pain diagnosis. The company estimates 266 million people worldwide suffer from chronic low back pain.
