Wells Fargo analyst Terry McEvoy downgraded BankUnited (NYSE: BKU) from Overweight to Equal Weight with a price target of $47.00 (from $54.00).
The analyst comments: “With downside risk to 3Q26 EPS (5% below consensus) and softening 2027 EPS visibility, we believe an EW is warranted until a more compelling catalyst emerges. Higher mortgage rates may pressure title deposit balances (17% of total), while guidance credibility remains an issue following the January outlook vs. actual 1H26 results. Prospective acquirers of BKU have tempered bank M&A expectations, another factor limiting multiple expansion (1.2x TBV / 2027 ROTCE – 10%).”
