Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model S received a 'rare' across-the-board 5-Star safety rating, noted a report today by analyst Rod Lache of Deutsche Bank. The vehicle earned a 5-star rating in all 3 tests (Frontal Crash, Side Crash, and Rollover), the highest rating possible, said US safety regulators.

"While many vehicles receive an 'overall rating' of 5-stars, we could only find 7 other vehicles that achieved 5-star ratings across-the-board under the tightened criteria that are used for vehicles 2011 model year and newer. These are Audi A4/S4, Cadillac ATS, Chevy Camaro, Honda Accord, Kia Optima, Subaru Legacy, and Volvo S60," said Lache.

"Tesla has always considered negative safety perception as a key hurdle to overcome in driving consumer adoption of electric vehicles, in addition to range anxiety and cost. This safety achievement is another testament to Tesla's engineering capability and we believe will support continued expansion of the customer base that considers purchasing a Model S," added the analyst.

Deutsche Bank has a Buy rating on Tesla Motors with a price target of $160.00
