RBC Capital analyst William Kirk offered insight into U.S food retailer that could be negatively impacted from the flooding in Texas and Oklahoma. Kirk said store closures and pantry destocking could negatively affect comparable store sales in the region.
According to Kirk, as of latest 10-K filings; Sprouts (NYSE: SFM) has 17% of its stores in Texas, Natural Grocers (NYSE: NGVC) 15%, Kroger (NYSE: KR) 8%, Whole Foods (NYSE: WFM) 6%, The Fresh Market (NYSE: TFM) 3%, and Smart & Final (NYSE: SFS) none. United Natural Foods (NASDAQ: UNFI) has a distribution facility in Lancaster, TX. Oklahoma represents 5% of Natural Grocers' stores, 3% of Sprouts' stores, 1% of Whole Foods' stores and 1% of The Fresh Market's stores. Houston, one of the hardest hit metros, has no Natural Grocers (0%), six Sprouts (3%), fifty Krogers (2%), five Whole Foods (1%), and three The Fresh Markets (2%).
