Nomura Securities on Economic Policy Watch
Nomura Securities on Economic Policy Watch by Lewis Alexander
Alexander said, "The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) did not announce new policy initiatives at the conclusion of its December meeting. While the FOMC again highlighted downside risks, they clearly did not see the need to move at this time. In the end, the FOMC decided that December was not the time to alter policy. Financial markets are less liquid and no press conference was scheduled. Conditions that consistently fail to satisfy the Federal Reserve’s “dual mandate” cry out for a policy response and we expect that the unacceptably high unemployment rate will lead the FOMC down the path of further policy accommodation. This could come as early as the January meeting."
