Buckingham Research to Close After Nearly 40 Years

March 3, 2020 9:01 AM UTC

New York-based independent research firm Buckingham Research is closing after 38 years in business. The firm cited the "profound and rapid changes in the equity research and money management businesses over the past few years, including the sharp decline in the number of active managers and the changing dynamic of the Broker Dealer research-fee structure."

From the CEO

After very thoughtful consideration, regrettably Buckingham Research has determined to wind-down the firm through April 30, 2020, after nearly four decades in the Equity Research business.

There have been profound and rapid changes in the equity research and money management businesses over the past few years, including the sharp decline in the number of active managers and the changing dynamic of the Broker Dealer research-fee structure. As a result, it has become increasingly challenging to continue to offer high quality and value-add research to our clients while also providing our employees and equity holders with the necessary resources and appropriate levels of compensation and return.

We want to thank our superb employees for their hard work, insights and dedication over the many years, and we are highly confident they will pivot and succeed in their future endeavors. We also greatly appreciate and thank all the clients and the many publicly-listed companies that have consistently worked closely with us throughout our 38 year history. We wish everyone much success and the best of luck.

Sincerely,
Joseph C. Amaturo
President and CEO
