Activist investor Bill Ackman's Pershing Square Capital has accumulated a $5.5 billion stake in Mondelez Int'l (NASDAQ: MDLZ), the Wall Street Journal reported late Wednesday. Ackman is expected to reveal the stake as soon as Thursday morning.
Ackman is looking for the company to sharply cut costs to compete or to sell itself.
Mondelez was spun-off from Kraft in 2012. Ackman's firm was a previous shareholder of Mondelez after the spin-off but sold out in mid-2013.
